I'd rather play DD1 again but with mods to add the new bosses and hero's. Really, the only thing that kept me going was the characters story and the main story, but I can tell, especially since I just failed the Leper's first Hero backstory quest, that this game is just going to be one incredibly long, boring, and extremely RNG grind. There is no bonus for pulling out early, nor a option to extract once you got to a inn. With DD2 however, I found that unfair was the rule, not the exception, and it was obvious very early in a run that it would be a failed run, but its still in your benefit to do as much as you can. While DD1 could be hard and unforgiving, and its why I loved it, at least it was fair.

In short, the game is unnecessarily cruel and unfair. Unlocking the new items and abilities is painfully slow, and I'm not even sure I want to unlock all of them because it means less of a chance to get the items you actually need to complete a run. I knew at that point the run was over, as that was my bread and butter for the run, and by about half way through the 1st wagon section it was. I remember I was running Vestal and Hellion and after the 1st inn, the one after the easy forest battle against undead, they had a falling out with the relationship system, and each got a point of stress whenever the Vestal used her Consecration of Fortitude ability or the hellion used her Wicked Hack. If you don't get the right supplies, if even 1 thing goes wrong, the run is over, and they are long runs. But the runs take a long time, there are long pauses between the battles, and each run is too RNG heavy.

Its like one really long DD1 dungeon, but in that one, when I knew the run was over, I'd just leave. But it just takes too long to go through the paths. The art is great! Love the new monsters, some of the new mechanics are great, but some are really troublesome.
